Rockville Chorus has been performing since 1972 for audiences of all ages within the Rockville regional community and surrounding areas in the state of Maryland. Rockville Chorus is a vibrant and dedicated musical organization consisting of 75 adult singers, currently under the direction of Linda Garrettson. Rockville Chorus is focused on developing a wide range of musical genres and styles of choral music. The repertoire consists of classical choral canon, Broadway musical songs, classical jazz arrangements, and original compositions from contemporary composers. Since the late 1990s, Rockville Chorus has been organizing and performing an annual benefit concert for the Rockville Emergency Assistance Program, which supports the most vulnerable citizens of Montgomery County. In 2010, Rockville Chorus traveled and sang in a European Tour, and in 2023, we began singing the National Anthem at minor league baseball games during the summer!
Who We Are:
Rockville Chorus is sponsored by the City of Rockville Department of Recreation and Parks, Arts Division (since 1972).
Rockville Chorus is led through the professional direction of Linda Garrettson.
Rockville Chorus is comprised of approximately 100 adult volunteer members who have been selected via an audition process and enjoy performing a varied repertoire.
What We Do:
Provide free choral concerts for the Rockville community and regional audiences.
Present two concerts annually (May and December) in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park.
Perform many other concerts throughout the immediate region in a variety of venues.
Sing a varied repertoire that often features works from leading composers including Bach, Britten, Mozart, Rutter, Hindemuth, Thompson, Vaughan Williams, Shaw, as well as many others. The Rockville Chorus also periodically performs/introduces works by local composers.
Rehearse weekly Monday evenings at the F.Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park.
Rockville Chorus maintains an outreach group called the Rockville Singers consisting of 20-30 voices. This smaller scale group performs at venues that are not large enough to accommodate the entire 100-member Chorus. The Rockville Singers (formed in 1999) perform 3 times a semester, and present a different repertoire of music from the Rockville Chorus.
The Singers have been on hold since the pandemic.
Rockville Chorus is sponsored by the City of Rockville Department of Recreation and Parks, Arts Division.
